Religious Education

The goal of the Religious Education Program is to pass on to our children the Catholic Faith we have received “in an organic and systematic way, with a view to initiating the [children] into the fullness of the Christian life” (Catechism of the Catholic Church. No. 5).  “The catechesis of children … aims at teaching them to meditate on The Word of God in personal prayer, practicing it in liturgical prayer, and internalizing it at all times in order to bear fruit in a new life.  Catechesis is also a time for the discernment and education of popular piety. The memorization of basic prayers offers an essential support to the life of prayer, but it is important to help learners savor their meaning” (No. 2688).

Classes for grades K – 8 are held at the Underhill Central School after Sunday Mass from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.  Throughout the year they participate in the Sunday Mass; liturgical prayers such as the Stations of the Cross, and the Rosary; parish fundraisers and; outreach to those in need in the community.

Parent participation as catechist, classroom helper, substitute teacher, and other functions is welcome and encouraged. Please visit the Diocese of Burlington's information page for the new child safety training program for adults: Safe and Sacred.
